Unanswered: Deployment question part 2 with apologies

Sorry about the first link - browser problems.

I'm writing software in java (hence posting here) and I am trying to decide between MySQL and Access databases. The only use will be for an address book, so transactions and catering for many users is not important.

The main things that I am using as a decision maker are which is the easiest to deploy on the end user's machine. Since I'm going to have to code the installation of it and I don't want to have the user messing about with ODBC or installing MySQL themselves.

    What you you advise?

    Thanks!
    Rachel

I think using a database engine for an address book is an overkill. I guess you'll be just fine storing your data as a text file or even serialized java objects.

If you want to use SQL to access your address book look at java database engines, such as Axion

I picked up the project half way and I didn't even consider that! It's a great solution and serialized objects would work way better!!

    Thanks!
