    Unanswered: datafile change initial size

Hello, we have a datafile of initial size 500MB on a 8i DMT. Auto increment of 500MB. Max size is 2GB. Can we increase initial size to 1GB?

The datafile has already been built... To change the initial size, you need to delete the file and rebuild it with a different initial size ... Why is it a concern what the initial size is ... You have it set to autoextend (although it will take some time to extend 500mg. Oracle has to 'touch' every data block on a new extent ...

Thanks for the reply. The initial size of 500 MB doesn't mee the next extent deficit problem.

Will this not do what you require (but as Gregg says, if it's set to autoextend, I'm not sure why you would want or need to)....

    Code:
ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE '\\pathtofile\filename.dbf' RESIZE 1024M
    Hth

Please don't email me directly with questions. I've probably just got home from the pub and cannot guarantee the sanity of my answers. In fact, I can't believe I actually made it home.
