    Unanswered: In Oracle8 - works fine, in Oracle 9i - doesnt work!

    Hello,

    I have some table defined in Oracle8:

    create table A (f1 char(4));

    filled with some data.

    select * from A;
    ----------------
    1000000 rows

    Then I've created dblink from Oracle9i instance to be able to see this table.

    In Oracle9i I write the following PL/SQL code:

    create table B as select * from A;

    And table B structure is looks very strange:

    desc B
    ------
    f1 char(12) (twelve!!!)

    Another interesting stuff:

    In Oracle9i I write:

    create table C(f2 char(4));

    insert into C select * from A;
    ----------------------------
    ORA error: value too large...

    Do you know what it can be?

    May be sombody already had a such very strange behaivour of Oracle9i.

    Thanks in advance,

    John.

    Based upon the very sparse information provided, my 1st guess is NLS parameters are different between the databases.

    Yes, data dictionary can be queried to get this information -
    select * from v$nls_parameter;

    Run this query and you will get all the NLS database parameters:

    SQL> select * from nls_database_parameters;

    Hope that helps,
