We are running Oracle 9i (9.2.0.3) on Windows 2000 Advanced server. Physical memory available on Windows server is 8GB. Out of this 4GB is allocated to Oracle SGA. Both /PAE and /3GB switches are on in boot.ini file. Oracle is running normally during regular load periods. However sometimes during peak load periods, we receive "dmio" errors in the Windows event log. When we looked into Microsoft's site, it says that these errors come when both /PAE and /3GB switches are on. Recommended action is to remove /3GB switch.

My question is: if I remove /3GB switch from boot.ini file, will I still be able to run Oracle with 4GB memory, with /PAE switch alone? It is a production box and I don't want to take any unnecessary risk.

Any suggestion?
