Unanswered: Referencing Cells Using A Function

    Hi All,

I'm not sure if this is possible, but can anyone help me with the following (excuse my poor descriptions, bad terminology and terms of reference):

I need to look up all of the cells in a column which have the same text, so that I can do a sum on the following row of the corresponding figures e.g. I want to look up all of the suppliers named "company x" in column a so that I can add up their invoices found in column b.

Any advice will be gratefully received.

    Many thanks,

    John

With one criteria you can use SUMIF

    =SUMIF(A:A,"company x",B:B)
    old, slow, and confused
    but at least I'm inconsistent!
