    Unanswered: performance Tuning question

Do you guys know whether you can create a bitmap index on an oracle 7.3.4 database table. Create bitmap index, command doesn't seem to work. Gives me an invalid Create command error. Same index can be created without any problems on an oracle 9i table.

What is the exact error message you get?

You can create bitmap indexes in Oracle 7.3
However, you will receive an ORA-600 error if you do not set a couple of events in the init.ora file.

event = "10111 trace name context forever"
event = "10112 trace name context forever"

the following is command I used

    create bitmap index bindx on
    emp ( deptno, sal)
    tablespace Orcl_stnjidx_tbs
    storage ( initial 4096K
    next 4096K
    minextents 1
    maxextents 500
    pctincrease 0 );

I get the following error message:

    create bitmap index bindx on
    *
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-00901: invalid CREATE command

If doing CREATE BITMAP INDEX and this is 7.3.2.2 or higher, ensure: a) (in init.ora) compatible=7.3.2 or higher
    b) the parallel query option is installed See [BUG:388925]
The answer to both these questions should be YES.
