    You can lead some folks to knowledge, but you can not make them think.
    The average person thinks he's above average!
    For most folks, they don't know, what they don't know.
    Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement.

    You don't have to do this in *NIX (Linux, Solaris, HP-UX). You simple have to:

    SQL> connect sys/change_on_install as sysdba
    SQL> startup nomount pfile='..................'
    SQL> CREATE DATABASE ..........

    The complete create_db.sh script looks like:

    Code:
    connect SYS/change_on_install as SYSDBA
    set echo on
    spool /apps/oracle/admin/KPRDINT1/create/CreateDB.log
    startup nomount pfile="/apps/oracle/admin/KPRDINT1/scripts/init.ora";
    CREATE DATABASE KPRDINT1
    MAXINSTANCES 1
    MAXLOGHISTORY 1
    MAXLOGFILES 20
    MAXLOGMEMBERS 4
    MAXDATAFILES 512
    DATAFILE '/data/oradata/KPRDINT1/database/system01.dbf' SIZE 250M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 10240K MAXSIZE UNLIMITED
    EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL
    DEFAULT TEMPORARY TABLESPACE TEMP TEMPFILE '/data/oradata/KPRDINT1/database/temp01.dbf' SIZE 40M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 640K MAXSIZE UNLIMITED
    UNDO TABLESPACE "UNDOTBS1" DATAFILE '/data/oradata/KPRDINT1/database/undotbs1_data01.dbf' SIZE 200M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 5120K MAXSIZE UNLIMITED
    CHARACTER SET WE8ISO8859P1
    NATIONAL CHARACTER SET UTF8
    LOGFILE GROUP 1 ('/data/oradata/KPRDINT1/logs/redo01.log') SIZE 32M,
            GROUP 2 ('/data/oradata/KPRDINT1/logs/redo02.log') SIZE 32M,
            GROUP 3 ('/data/oradata/KPRDINT1/logs/redo03.log') SIZE 32M,
            GROUP 4 ('/data/oradata/KPRDINT1/logs/redo04.log') SIZE 32M,
            GROUP 5 ('/data/oradata/KPRDINT1/logs/redo05.log') SIZE 32M;
    spool off
    exit;

    Later on when you have the instance created, you can mimic the oradim autostart option with This startup/shutdown script for Oracle on Linux
