Unanswered: allowing multiple entries in a field

Hi, I was wondering how one would set up a field in a table to allow multiple entries in it, maybe separated by commas or space...sorry this seems like it should be a simple question, but I am new to databases, if anyone can help me I would appreciate it.

Hmmm... and why do you need to do this?

The exact method for inserting "multiple entries" is going to depend on exactly what method you are using to obtain each entry.

The real question I would askis what table layout are you using that would require you to do this?
oh yeah... documentation... I have heard of that.

    Cardinal Rule

Thow shalt not store mutlivalue items in a field...

This will only turn around and bite you in the arse.

Create a new table with the PK from the first table and a second field for what you want to store. Then make the two fields a composite key.

If you ever want to try and sort, filter, quantitize the information froma multi-value field it is way too much work.

This is from experience..... trust me.
