Unanswered: default time to acquire lock

Is there a default time the database gives a local session (not distributed, not ER) to acquire a lock? I have been noticing what seems like a lot of locking issues since my upgrade to 9.4 and I am just not starting to really dig in.

    Hi,

Sorry, I do not understand its problem.
The time of a lock depends on the time of the transaccion or of the life of the sesion.

No not the time for the session that has the lock, the time a second session will wait (for the first session to release) trying to acquire a lock before it gives up.

    Hi,

Ok, by default there is not time, this is handled with the "set lock mode to xxx" second or "set lock mode to wait".

Also take a look if you are using page or row level locking

Thanks guys. Our developers have NEVER used any hints to set a lock wait or mode and we have grown so much that we finally have enough people hitting the tables that we are seeing lock issues.

Have you ever really met a programmer that understood concurrency issues like record locking, deadly embrace and rollback? I never have.
