    Unanswered: ora-03114

    Hi all,

Some users of our oracle 8.1.7 received ORA-03114: not connected error on their guis. How to check if oracle was working properly this morning. It seems the problem is corrected. However, is there a way to check if there was something wrong with oracle? Any log files etc ... ?

    Thanks in advance.

    Check your alert log.

Go to your init.ora file and look for the directory for your "bdump" location.

    Ex. /oracle/PROD/admin/bdump

There should be an alert_SID.log file in there. Look for the time frame in question to see if Oracle had any errors.

Thanks. There are no errors in that file.

Is there any other thing that needs to be seen?

You can try your listener.log file which should be in the ORACLE_HOME/network/log for OracleNet. Though, I'd be more inclined to look for a problem with the network or application. Does the application have an error log you can look at? The fact that there are no errors in the alert.log probably means the database was running fine during that time, but for whatever reason, you weren't able to reach it.

A search of MetaLink returns 200 different articles & notes.
This is a common error with many, many different causes.
And seeing as how you've provided only a few details, I'm not going to try to guess & waste your time or mine.

Most folks can be led to knowledge, but a few will steadfastly refuse to think (for themselves)!
