    Unanswered: Install PostgreSQL on Win2KPro Problem

    I'm having a little problem with installing PostgreSQL on Win2K Pro.

    Installation:
    Win2KPro
    Cygwin 1.5.10-3
    PostgreSQL 7.4.3 (source from Cygwin)

    ==========================================

    After installation completed. I then ran

    $ ipc-daemon2 &
    $ initdb -E UNICODE

    And got the following output:

    $ initdb -E UNICODE -d

    Running in debug mode.

    And got the following output:

    initdb: internal variables:
    PGDATA=/usr/local/pgsql/data
    datadir=/usr/share/postgresql
    PGPATH=/usr/bin
    ENCODING=UNICODE
    ENCODINGID=6

    PG_IDENT_SAMPLE=/usr/share/postgresql/pg_ident.conf.sample

    This user must also own the server process.

    The database cluster will be initialized with locale C.

    Does anyone know what the problem might be? Any help
    would be greatly appreciated.

    If im not mistaken it has to do with the rights assigned to the folders where cygwin has been installed.

    I had a similar problem with cygwin2.0 on a Win 2003 Server.

    When i set the cygwin folder to everyone - full control (inherentance for all underlying folders/files) the problem was gone.
