Angry Unanswered: sql service wont start

    Hi,

I managed to screw up one of my sql servers the other day, so I decided to re-build it. I managed to re-install sql server, patch it up to the correct level and restore the master database, but now the sql service wont start at all

Any ideas as to why this has happened.

I am using sql server standard edition with win2000 server.

    Thanks

So, are you getting any error messages? What is the status of the service, and how is it logging on?
If it's not practically useful, then it's practically useless.

    Hi,

it just says the service did not start and did not return an error, if you try to start via the command line, it kicks up errors about model and msdb databases.

    Hi,

Ok I starting to work this out I think, maybe the old installation had the msdb database in a different location, so when I restored to master it made it look in the wrong place for .mdf and .ldf files

    what do you think?
