Exclamation Unanswered: Level 0 Archive - Very Slow

    Hi Gurus,

Our production informix database nightly archive run has become very slow. It used to take about 3-4 hrs. It now takes a whoppping 12 Hrs. Its affecting our production adversly, thus I ask for your help.

The change in time for backup was sudden. There was no hardware / software change prior to that for some months.

We are running 7.3 on HP-UX.

I have read about some articles about the very old page bug ? Is that it or can I check some other areas?

    Thanks & Regards

    Hi,

I think that the change of time may be increase size of the database.
I unknown, if use ontape or onbar. Onbar is generally more speedy that ontape.
Please test size of dbspaces temps, layout of disk and traffic on your network.

    Possibility Of Bug 101062

All the forums and support groups point to the arc_very_old_pages bug and have suggested that we use the ccflags = 0x400000 to solve it. If I do a onstat -g ath, I get the following

    informix-Production:tioga2:/home/informix #onstat -g ath | grep arc
    13007 c000000017785830 c000000017cfa1e0 2 sleeping forever 3cpu arcbackup1
    13008 c000000017785d18 c000000017cff4c0 3 sleeping secs: 1 3cpu arcbackup2

    Does this mean anything ?

    Regards

    He,

Please run onstat -g stk | grep old_pages.
I think that this can be this problem.

We had the same problem and then I was asked by the Tech support to add the following to the onconfig file.
    CCFLAGS 0x400000

Check with the Tech support before trying it out.

Smile Bug ID 101062 Archive Very Old Pages

    Hi,

After consultation with Informix tech support, we did put in the CCFLAGS and that brought our archive time down to 4 hrs.

I also found some very interesting posts on the HP IT resource center about certain other bug that some versions might land into and their fixes.

Thank you all for your help. Do look at the HP resource site if you have time, it might just save you some time in future, just search for "informix".

    Thanks & Regards
