    Unanswered: Update help?

    I have a price table :

    Code:
    PriceItemID | Labour | Materials
    --------------------------
    1 | 90 | 40
    Then a takeoff table
    Code:
    EntryID | kfPriceItemID | Labour | Materials
    -------------------------------------------
    1 | 1 | 90 | 40
Now, the estimate could be prepared today but the customer doesn't respond to it for 3 months. By then the prices of the "items" may have been
raised/lowered and the estimate will need to be updated.

What would be the easiest way to do this?

I cannot think of a way to use the UPDATE method.....

Should I just create a PriceLock bit field on the estimate and a "Update" trigger on the price list table?

    Any suggestions?

How about a "Date_Quoted" in your takeoff table. If you tell the customer "we will hold the quote firm for seven days", then check to see if your quote date is gt 7 days from getdate. If lt 7 days, the quote is good, else refresh the price data from your base table.

Actually, what I was wondering was what would the update query look like, but I do believe I have it... I wrote it and tested it and it appears to work...

Your reply is a very good suggestion however, thanks!
