Thumbs up to up database in new machine

i assume that you have cold backup i.e consistent.

    1) copy the files respective directory (same as prev machine or you have to rename it in mount stage0
    2) init.ora file is to be prepared it should be placed in ora_home/database
(in windows) or ota_home/dbs( in unix) eg initabc.ora
(or you can place it where you req but give the entry ifile for direction)

where abc is sid you have it.

    in same directory
    3) oradim -new -sid abc -startmode auto
    4) orapwd file=pwdabc.ora password=xyz

    set oracle_sid=abc
you have to login as sysdba (connect internal/xyz in svrmgrl command prompt in 8i) and startup the database.

    Arrow remote_login_passwordfile = none

remote_login_passwordfile = none in init.ora will not look for password file.

    this will serve you pupose.
