    Question Unanswered: Fixpacking Ver 7

    Hi All - AIX 4.3.3.0 DB2 7.1.0

Just discovered an inhouse solution using
version 7 fixpack 1. I want to take it to fixpack
12 immediately. Alas it states in the documentation
that fixpack 3 is required. My question:

Is it necessary to first upgrade to fixpack 3 before fixpack 12?

    - and if yes does anyone know a location for the eralier fp?

    Cheers

Well, if it is explicitly stated in the documentation I would assume it's kinda true. FP3 was a major release that brought v.7.1 to v.7.2

All v7 fixpacks are available here:

Yes, you will need to apply fixpak 3 then you can go to 12, up to that point IBM fixpaks were not cumlative.
Here is the homepage with all v7 fixpaks

You need to apply fixpack 3 on db2 v7.1, because this fixpack upgrades the db2 to version 7.2. That is the reason.

After applying the fixpack 3 you can apply any fixpack above.

    Hope this helps,

    runtime clients

Anyone any experience how the run-time clients cope with applying the fix-packs?
I would like to get version 7 up to date, but I hate running into problems with the clients.........

    Ties,

If your client is at FP 7 and server is at FP 9 , then, you will have to bind FP 7 db2cli.lst and db2ubind.lst packages to the server ...

It is , for every OS-DB2LEVEL combination, this should be done ...
    ie ,
    Server : AIX DB2 V7 FP12
    If the clients are
    AIX DB2 V7 FP11
    Solaris DB2 V7 FP9
    AIX DB2 V7 FP10
    Windows V7 FP3

then for every client above, you will have to bind the packages stated earlier.

    Hope this helps

    runtime 7.1 and fixpacks

    Sathyaram,

    Thanks for your reply.

We basically just the runtime clients for reporting purposes. A long time ago I tried to access DB2 7.1 (no fix-pack) with the version 7.2 run-time client.
This induced messages about having to rebind packages.

Since we have also runtime clients installed in other parts of europe, I don't want to have to upgrade them as well.

I did some testing last year with 7.1 runtime client on a 8.1 database and that worked pretty slick, no issue with rebinding.

So, our need is just for setting up connections and configuring the ODBC components, not for running applications. Would that make things easier?

For basic application queries, to my experience, the client level is not a problem ..

ODBC again uses the db2 CLI libraries ... So, you will have to bind the packages as indicated in my earlier post... But, it need not be from each and every client ... It is enough if you have a box with the same db2 client level as others and you do the bind ...

    Hope this helps

better upgrade to fp 3 then pf 12, because fp 1 & fp 12 has lots of difference.

let me know if any questions.

    Thank You
