    Unanswered: manipulate string wrongly

    Hi All,

    I have a problem like this:

    begin
    declare str varchar(1000);
    set str='On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair. Warm smell of colitas rising up through the air.';
    select ASCII(str), str;
    end

    After running, the result as :
    79, On a dark desert highway, cool

    what problem with str parameter? why is it truncated?

    Please help me.
    Thanks a lot,
    Thi Nguyen

    Which database you are using. For Sybase follwoing the right code

    declare @str varchar(1000)
    select @str='On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair. Warm smell of colitas rising up through the air.'
    select ASCII(@str), @str

    I run your code in ISQL but the result the same before.
    I think that I don't know to configure ISQL to show string all.

    http://www.experts-exchange.com/Data..._20611284.html
    On this page, they have the same problem to me.
    But they configure ISQL to run well, I can't.

    Please help me to configure ISQL correctly.

    Thanks a lot,
    Thi Nguyen
