    Unhappy Unanswered: Unable to start database server

    When trying to recover the database with Sybase, I always get the error message "Unable to start database server".
    Does anybody know what the problem is?
    Thank you

    Does the errorlog give some more information?

    Assuming you use Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise, it should be in your Sybase-install-directory, somewhat like C:\Sybase. Look in the ASE-12_5\Install\ directory, you'll find a file called errorlog there.
    open in it notepad or something like that.
    Look for entries at the time of the errormessages.

    "Unable to start database server" is an IAnywhere error text. There are serveral reasons this can happen;

    Permissions problem on the .db and .log file,
    Database instance is not setup to interact with desktop,
    Not enough privilages for the user to start the utility db.
