Question Unanswered: Considering unbound form with DAO rs - advice, please.

My form includes two subforms in a tab control, both based on queries.
When I do calculations, I now use DAO recordset for the VBA operations.

However, I cannot use dbOptimistic to open the RS, only dbSnapshot, which I believe is Read-only by default, and possibly cannot be set to be editable without the dbOptimistic parametres.

Is there a way to have a DAO rs update the same table (through queries if need be) that the subform(s) is using, giving both sides write access?

Is the alternative to make the forms unbound, handling it all through recordsets in VBA? If so, I have never worked like this with unbound forms, so I would like some advice, particularly how the connection(s) are specified.

sorry, I'm confused. when you say RS you mean form's RS. right? and your forms are opened in read only state?
