    Unanswered: Oracle 9iAS

Friends, I am new to oracle. I bought a book yesterday and tried to install personal Oracle 9iAS on my laptop (XP professional). Installation went smooth except in last where it was asking for configuring the hostname. I cancelled it as I just needed database to work out sql queries. Please tell me whether that thing is going to create problem in running oracle. Also I am not able to log on to oracle as i am using scott/tiger. I am not aware of the host string. please hlp me out

127.0.0.1 -> might work as a replacement for host name
You can lead some folks to knowledge, but you can not make them think.
The average person thinks he's above average!
For most folks, they don't know, what they don't know.

Try the default passwords for SYS (change_on_install) & SYSTEM (manager), or whatever passwords you set them to when you installed the Db.
90% of users' problems can be resolved by punching them - the other 10% by switching off their PCs.
