Exclamation Unanswered: Copying only part of a piece of data

Here's a brief outline of my problem.

I want to be able to sort between different models of computer and the only way this can be done is by looking at there serial numbers. Obviously the majority of the serial number is to identify the individual machine and I only need a small section, the characters 5 to 8 (i think). Is there anyway I can perform a function on the serial number and strip it down to only the part of the data that I need.

Hopefully this can be done relatively simply as I'm not very knowledgeable of VBA. Also we're talking about 1000's of records, not a few.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

    Use the Mid function

    Mid(String, StartPoint, Length)

    Mid("This is my test string", 5 , 3)
