Unhappy Unanswered: ORA-00439: feature not enabled: Managed Standby

    Please can anyone help me?
    Scenario:
    XEON processor
    O.S. windows 2000 server
    Oracle 8.1.7.4 Standard Edition

    No problem in installing Oracle
No problem in creating a DB in no archive log mode
When I want to set the DB in archive log mode:

    shutdown
    startup nomount
    alter database mount exclusive
    alter database archivelog
    <modify the pfile enabling archivelog>
    shutdown
    startup

    I get the following error:

ORA-00439: feature not enabled: Managed Standby

    Where is the problem?

    Thanks in advance

    Max

It is in the initSID.ora file.

    Thanks!
But how can I solve the problem? Can you help me? The init file was created by Oracle installation ...

I won't swear that this is the answer, but I had the same error and it had to do with the destination of the archived redo log files. I think I had to use the log_archive_dest_1 instead of log_archive_dest parameter.

Almost 1000 hits are returned by searching GOOGLE for ORA-00439
I suspect the answer is available but some folks expect to be spoon fed.
