Unanswered: Oracle on Unix Vs Oracle on Sun Solaris

    Hi,

    Scenario:
    --------------
I have a situation where at the clients place Oracle is running on Unix Box.
but the local version of oracle that i have here in office is on a Sun Solaris box.

I am running a .NET Application that talks to Oracle Database.

    My Question
    ------------
    1) Do we have to Install any Specific Drivers so that .NET is able to talk to Oracle that is on a Sun Solaris Box.

Please let me know regarding the same

    Thanks
    Shankar

    Hi,
What Unix Oracle version you have.?

I do not feel that u can install the same oracle s/w on SUb Solaris. It is separate for HP-Unix and separate for Sun Solaris. Though it's OS is Unix but it will not work.

If you have the Oracle client installed then your oracle client software (be it using jdbc, odbc, net8 etc) can talk to any Oracle database regardless of what OS the database is actually running on providing you can talk to the Oracle network port on the server (usually 1521).
