    Unanswered: ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist

    Hi,

    Please help me in resolving the following issue.
    when i try to login to db it is giving following error

    ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist


    all the services are started .

    guesswork ... few information provided : platform, RDBMS version, OS

    either you start a SID which is not available
    your initORA SGA Size does not fit into the memory your machine has

    I think you may have missed to configure some kernel parameters. If you've not done it yet, download "Oracle Installation Guide" (for 9i, you can find it here : "http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/oracle9i.html"), and go to section 2 "Pre-Installation Requirements", and then "Setup tasks to perform as root" : "Configure Kernel Parameters" (section 2-16). I had the same problem, and I solved it by following the instructions given here.
