    Unanswered: Tablespace backup ACTIVE

One of the tablespace on 8.1.7 backup on AIX goes into this mode almost everyday while backup of other tablespaces goes fine. I have to manually issue the ALTER TABLESPACE TSNAME END BACKUP command to bring it out of this state.

What could be wrong? and where I can look for information as to what is causing this and what to do to fix it!!

Find out who is putting the tablespace into BACKUP mode
and inform him that either he should stop doing so, or at
least take the tablespace out of backup mode after the
    backups have completed.

    Doctor,
My eye hurts when I poke my finger into it.
How can I stop my eye from hurting?

    You are a funny man!!!

Well, we have a nightly backup script which runs to take backup. All the other tablespaces are backed up fine except this one. So I wanted to know why it is so....or what should be the starting point to solve this i.e. logs etc.

No. you are the funny one.
    You have the backup script.
You did not share that information with us (TINU).
We (TINW) are not minder readers.
"Obviously" the tablespace in question is not being handled just like all the others.
Enable detailed tracing of YOUR script(s) & examine the results carefully..
Do you have any physical proof that any attempt is being made to take this particular tablespace OUT of backup mode?
Was this tablespace the most recently added tablespace to this DB?

If you don't know how YOUR system works, why do you expect we should know it better than you?
The answer can be found on your system, if you know where to find it.

    Rhetorical question.....
Why do I ALWAYS find what I'm looking for in the very last place I look?

Hey, Dollar489, calm down a bit & think - we are here to help each other as much as we can (& anacedent is more than willing to help others), but we can't help unless we know the full facts. Read your 1st post in this thread, then your 2nd; the info given in your 1st post is so vague as to be useless, the info in your 2nd post is more useful but should have been in the 1st post - see what I'm getting at? I'm guilty of doing this in the past, so I'm not preaching from a high horse, but if you have a problem THINK, GATHER ALL FACTS, THINK AGAIN, THEN POST.

(Also, getting into a slanging match may result in a lack of help in future posts - who wants to help a fellow user if they don't get any thanks for it?)

Please read your script. Is it a manual script where you are putting the tablespace in backup mode and then copying the datafiles using the OS or is it a canned application. If it is a manual script, can you find the actual line in the script that turns off backup mode. Could you post the script so that we can review it. We don't have enough information yet to help. And yes anacedent can be harsh, but he is just frustrated with users asking for help and not giving any info. However, he is very sharp and an asset to the forum. Now everyone take a deep breath and start over.

Thanks beils...actually the problem turns out to be with TSM. During the time the tablespace was put into begin backup mode, an archive job will run and do a log switch and TSM will fail. So we changed the setting on TSM side and hopefully things will be okay from now on.
