Unanswered: Archive process error. ORACLE Instance prod - Can not allocate log. archival required

I have a Oracle 8 with Sap R3 in a Windows NT 4.0 Server and in the event viewer appears this menssage:
    Event Id:20
    Source: Oracle
Archive process error. ORACLE Instance prod - Can not allocate log. archival required.
    What does it means?

Look in your alertlog and see what Oracle is telling you ...

    usually under \oraclehome\bdump ...
Post the last bit of the alterlog so we can see what it says ...

Is there any previous ORA-xxxxx in your alertlog? Did it generate any .trc file? If so, post it.
