    Unanswered: 2000 reward offered

This is the problem. We have had a company database run by one man for the last 12 years written in ASA 6.0.

He has now left the company under a very grey cloud and refuses to hand over the connection username and password.

Sybase have said that they can extract the data from the old database (for a cost) but this means that we will have to re-write a new front end to use the data.

Sybase will not however extract/reveal the username and password.

The comapny is offering a reward of up to 2000 to anyone who can extract this information for us.

We can prove ownership of this database. This is a serious and URGENT offer.

We are a team from Romania, specialized in databases, Oracle 8i/9i/10g, MS SQL Server 2k, Sybase ASE 11.x - 12.5.x, DB2 UDB. We want more details about your problem. Are you interested for that ? More than that, we know some tips and tricks to get your data row to row.

I would think you'd have a very good court case, though that might cost more, and would almost certainly take longer than the route you are taking now.

    Dear Jim,

We want more details (Operating System, Database, Users, Network connections, etc.) because we know to get any password against Sybase, include SA, sa, dbo, or to get root password from your operating system Linux/Unix or other.

    Do you get it?

If is not possible to solve your problem through remote, (we thing it is not) we are available to relocate and solve the problem on your location. You do not need to rewrite your old applications client/server for your database.

    reset the password.

If you can prove that the database is yours, Sybase will be able to reset the "DBA" password back to "SQL".

I cannot see why you would need to rewrite your frontend application as even if the data and schema was extracted, you would simply create a new database file with dbinit and reload the data in to the new dbfile.

Have you got some cut down installation of ASA that is installed by a third party with limited utilities?

    Mark.
