Unanswered: BLOB or BFILE to store images in Oracle 8i database?

ok, i have this VB.NET application and i need to store a bunch of image files, around 20,000 maybe, in an Oracle 8i database. i've been reading the Oracle 8i documentation and i understand i can use either BLOB or BFILE. which one has what pros/cons? i tend to prefer the BLOB since i don't have to worry about creating a directory on the server. any recommendations?

    Thanks.

You better use BLOB for images, since the support for it is much better. Look at the DBMS_LOB package and its functions/procedures.

    Hope that helps,

    BLOB vs BFILE

The best is to use the BLOB, which stores the image inside the database. The BFILE only stores a pointer to the OS location of the image. I created a procedure to load all my files into the database, and then call them as I need them into my web pages.
