Unanswered: Data migration and relationship migration advice.

Hi all..I need to migrate a db from sql server to oracle....My question is what is the best way to do this in terms of migration. Of course Im going to have to create the relationships first....It is basically one table with a lot of FK's, that is relative to 10-12 tables with PK's....

Im guessing the best way to do this is make all relationships, then move data into the tables that have the PK's, and then lastly the biggest table with all the FK's.. Is that correct?

I jsut want to avoid getting some kind of relationship error when I start enabling the relationships

Oracle actually has a migration tool that will move the tables, data, relationships, etc directly from sql-server to Oracle. Check out the info at

    I have..

Tried to get this to work a plethora of times...it was incredibly frustrating. I got the plugins for SQL Server...I start the app, Login - and nothing happens, and I mean nothing. I actually let the java applet window stay open overnight and the program still did not load.

Have you tried to contact Oracle to see what is wrong? If you didn't get the support options, then try the otn forums at

    Try Monarca

This is a really outstanding database migration tool, it has an Automated Database Migration Wizard which automates the script creation process (with relationships, FK, PK, Index, etc.) and the data migration process. If you need to perform a complex database migration it has something called Database Migration Diagrams or DMD which allows custom mapping between source and target databases. It works for me smoothly!

    Good luck!

If your happy your data is clean which I presume it is, migrate all your data and then create the constraints as its much quicker to load the data, assuming you have a substantial amount.
