Unanswered: ontape -r gives physical restore fail, bad read/write permission

    Hi All

Hope you can help, I'm not a DBA, but been left to restore an Informix db - don't ask why, horrible mess.

Anyway trying to restore using ontape -r after taking informix off-line, reads tape ok, but when I say yes to continue the restore it reports

physical restore failed - Bad READ/WRITE permissions: '/opt2/dbspaces/rootdbs'

I've logged in as informix and root and get the same result

If I cd to /opt2 and ls -la I get
    drw-rw---- 2 informix informix 1024 Jul 11 2001 dbspaces
    and can't cd into dbspaces.

Can anyone get me past this area?

    Thanks

    Hi,

Looks like a UNIX problem, but I'll give it a try.

Could it be that /opt2/dbspaces is a mount point or something and the disks underneath aren't mounrted. It only makes sense to retry the ontape command after you can access this directory.

    Hope this helps,

    mwinwright:

try to set permission to the directory and the file as below:

    cd /opt2
    chmod 770 dbspaces
    cd dbspaces
    touch rootdbs
    chmod 660 rootdbs
    chown informix:informix rootdbs

    good luck!

    Regards,
