I have sybase 11.5 running on NCR MRRAS Unix server
For some reason the database backup is not happening.
We get this message:
Aug 28 02:05:00 2004: Backup Server: 126.96.36.199: Creating new disk file /bucket1/db_dump/str/strdb.gtl5.Sat.
Aug 28 02:05:00 2004: Backup Server: 188.8.131.52: The 'shmget' call failed with error number 28 (No space left on device). Refer
to your operating system documentation for further details.
Aug 28 02:05:00 2004: Backup Server: 184.108.40.206: Failed to create or attach shared tape i/o buffers.
We restarted the server - both backup server and sybase, even restarted the unix server
The problem still persists
We increased the shared memory and restarted server, we now get this message
Sep 1 00:11:31 2004: Backup Server: 220.127.116.11: The 'write' call failed for device '/bucket1/db_dump/fin/findb.gtl5.Wed' with error number 9 (Bad file number). Refer to your operating system documentation for further details.
Sep 1 00:11:31 2004: Open Server Error: 16238.10.0: srv_rpcname: Invalid result type(1002) for event(2)
Each of our database sizes is not more than 1 GB
I nead help on this, is there a formula for calculating shared memory.
How do I fix this problem
When I run ipcs this is what is displayed, I notice no sybase components are listed
laki$ ipcs -ma
