    Post Unanswered: NLS_LANG "UTF8"

    UTF8 database

    Hi,
We are going to build a multi-language DB by using NLS_LANG "UTF8". In our case, we need to allow the users to enter "Simplified Chinese", "Thailand" & "English". But some of our users are still using Win98 while some using Win2000.
I would like to know what kinds of setting (like Regional Setting, Win Registry, etc...) I need to do on both kinds machine. Please kindly advise.

I have done some work with Multi Byte characters, and have never changed any settings on the client, however you need to store your data in multi byte format so make sure you change your nls_length_semantics to char, this is normally done during the database build.

    SELECT value
    FROM V$PARAMETER
    WHERE UPPER(name)='NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS'

There is more information on the metalink website.. search for nls_length_semantics.
