Unanswered: ORA-12560 while trying to create db

    Ora9205
    Win2003
I perform the following action to create a DB (only Oracle soft is installed and running):

    set ORACLE_SID=TEST
    sqlplus /nolog
    SQL> connect SYS/change_on_install as SYSDBA

    ERROR:
    ORA-12560: TNS:error...

Its obvios that no listener is running, cause no DB is up and running...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

have you created the service first?
oradim -new -sid <SID> -startmode manual -pfile <full_path_to_pfile>
oradim -startup -sid <SID> -starttype srvc

use VNC instead or do it directly on the server

    Hi,

If you are using through terminal service client, then try setting the ORACLE_SID locally.
    set ORACLE_SID=<dababase name>
    set LOCAL=%ORACLE_SID%

    Try this, it should work.
or else set the ORACLE_SID and LOCAL values as system variables.(My Compter->Properties->Advanced->Environment Variables->System Variables). Add ORACLE_SID and LOCAL variable as SID name.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Mahesh

    Hi,

I think you should begin by launching netca and configuring a listener. Then you should be able to connect as you wanted :

    sqlplus /nolog

    connect sys/change_on_install as sysdba

... and then start an idle instance...

    startup nomount

... and then create your database, tablespaces...

In fact, I just had a look at Oracle doc about the error "ORA-12560 TNS: protocol adapter error", and what I said doesn't seem to really match your need. In the doc, they say that it comes from the fact that the service OracleServiceSID where SID is the SID of your instance, is not running... and as a solution, it is written :

Cause: The listener was unable to start a process connecting the user to the
    database server.
    Action: Perform these steps:
    1. Turn on tracing and repeat the operation.
    2. Evaluate the contents of the trace file to diagnose the problem.

I'm not sure this will greatly help you, but I hope so.

    Regards,

    RBARAER
