Question Unanswered: CREATE FUNCTION in INGRES

    Hi

I want to create an user-defined-function so that I can use it in the following way:

    SELECT mymax(col1,col2) FROM tablex

I have searched entire Ingres documentation, but failed to find the syntax.
Doesnt Ingres support "Create Function" to create user defined functions?

Anybody please educate me in this regard.

    TIA
    Srinivas K

    Try looking under create procedure

I think what you are looking for is a Database Procedure in Ingres. Check the manual using that topic.

    Talking

    They don't exist.
Maybe in R3 you will find something similar.

You can create your own data types, and modify functions for those data type through data blades I think its called. This becomes unsupported by CA though cause you code gets "comiled" into the Ingres binaries and can therefore crash the database if you do it wrong.

Ingres provides this facility through the use of OME. Using the OME api you can create your own sql functions and datatypes.

You can download the manual from here:

    Hope this helps!
