    Unanswered: TNS Protocol adapter Error.

    hello,

I have installed Oracle 8.1.7 in Windows2003, havent created the Default Database.
But after that when i tried to create database using Database Configuration Assistant,
it shows TNS Protocol adapter Error.
    When i tried from
    >
    SQL > conn /as sysdba
    it shows
    ERROR:
    ORA-12560: TNS:error...

    How to solve this

    Thanks in advance
    Krishna

Ensure you have created a service first (oradim utility)...
    c:\> set ORACLE_SID=vmfg
c:\> D:\Oracle\bin\oradim -new -sid sidname -intpwd password -startmode manual -pfile "D:\Oracle\admin\....\initvmfg.ora"
    c:\> svmrgrl
    or
    c:\> svrmgrl @sql_file_you_create_to_build_the_database

    connect INTERNAL/password
    startup nomount pfile="D:\Oracle\....\init.ora"
    CREATE DATABASE databasename
    ...
    ...
    ...

Sorry .. Too trigger happy with the send button ...

Also ensure that your listener.ora has the instance in it and that the
listener is up and running ... Might also ensure that you have an entry
for your service in your tnsnames.ora file also
