    Unanswered: sorting problem

I'm using the ORDER BY asc, ORDER BY desc, statements on a postgresql(7.4) database text field but am having problems because it sorts according to uppercase lower case. For example I'm getting:

    CCCCCC
    ab
    abc
    bcc
    bd

I'd like it to ignore the case and just sort alphabetically. Is this possible?

I haven't used postgresql before .. but if you know an equivalent to function LOWER used in SQL Server then you could use:
    ORDER BY LOWER([fieldname])

    HTH.

thanks i'll give it a try. will LOWER only sort the lower case and ignore the sorting of the uppercase or does it sort all ignoring the case.
