Unanswered: SQL Server does not exist or access denied

    Hi Group,
I've recently installed SQL 2000 over a copy of an expired beta version of SQL Server 7.0.
I am getting the error SQL Server does not exist or access denied when I try to connect using localhost the IP Address.

I can ping the address. I have tried all of the suggestions on the Microsoft Web-site. I've even uninstalled and re-installed it but I still get the same error.
When I try to setup a DNS the server is not listed. What's wrong!!

    Kind Regards

May be the IP is ok, but it is using other port.
Try doing a telnet to port 1433

    telnet myserver 1433

and see if it opens the session.

Also, check the port setting in the server with the Server Network Utility.

    Hello cesarvega,
When I issued the telnet command, I get could not open connection to the host, on port 1433 Connect failed.

The port setting is set accordingly.

I can ping both the box name and IP address - no problem.
What's this tracert(-d)? How do I run it?

    Kind Regards
