    Talking Unanswered: Mirgrating data via csv files

    I was wondering if someone can help/assist me.

    I am currently working on a mirgration whereby I am taking selective data from an oracle database, then gathering this information to put into csv files so they can be them imported into an new sql server 2000 server.

    I have started to select all the required data using 'select statments' then creating temporary tables so i can transfer the data back into csv files where be via access or excel.
    Does this sound right or am i doing this totally wrong?

    Cheers

    If I'm not misuderstanding, just use SQL*PLUS and use the spool command like so:

    Spool c:/some_directory/emp_table.txt

    Select ename ||','|| empno ||','||mgr
    from emp;

    spool off

    nah...

    get rid of the csv step all together.

    create DTS packages (in the SQL Server enterprise manager) to move your data.

    1) Create a new package
    2) Have your oracle db as your source
    3) define the transformation (as your select)
    4) have your sql server as the target.

    Talking ss569--& if I have 50 tables?

    I have more than 50 tables, would I follow the same procedure for all tables;

    Spool c:\mirgration\organisation.csv

    select details ||' ,'|| address_1 ||' ,'||
    from org;

    spool off;

    Would I do this within on sql script?

    Cheers
