    Unanswered: Attributes of ROWID in 2 tables are different?

    When I installed Oracle on my XP I get a sample database HR with table COUNTRIES, EMPLOYEES etc. I use a Java program to retrieve rowid from these 2 tables and I get confusing results.

    First , rowid from EMPLOYEES table was retrieved without any problem:

    String sql = "SELECT ROWID FROM HR.EMPLOYEES";
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery(sql);

    When I try to get rowid from COUNTRIES table using the same syntax I get an exception.

    String sql = "SELECT ROWID FROM HR.COUNTRIES";
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery(sql);

    Exception at = stmt.executeQuery(sql):
    "ORA-03115: unsupported network datatype or representation"

    When I use SQL-Plus I can get ROWIDs from both tables!

    Why?

    Thanks!

    It could be that HR.EMPLOYEES & HR.COUNTRIES are different type of objects;
    table, view, IOT, Partitioned table, etc.
    Since it works OK, in SQL*Plus, the problem also may be in the JDBC interface.
