Hello All:

I am new to Linux, I am trying to defect from the Microsoft camp. When ever I attempt to run a php script on Apache or even from the command line I recieve that following error

./test.php4: line 1: syntax error near unexpected token `('

literaly the only thing in this php file is

<?php phpinfo(); ?>

I do not understand why this is not working. I am running Apache 2.0 and PHP version:

PHP 4.3.4 (cli) (built: Jul 15 2004 20:16:02)
Copyright (c) 1997-2003 The PHP Group
Zend Engine v1.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2003 Zend Technologies

According to YaST (running SUSE) every thing is installed, and when I look in my Apache config files I have application assocations set up.

SUSESRVX:/etc/apache2/conf.d # cat php4.conf
<IfModule sapi_apache2.c>
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php3
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php4
AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps
DirectoryIndex index.php
DirectoryIndex index.php3
DirectoryIndex index.php4
</IfModule>

This is set as an include file to the httpd.conf file

Any one have a clue?

Thanks so much,
Steven M Aiello
