    Unanswered: Using Copy command of SQL*Plus in SQR

    Hi,

    I just wondering can I use the copy command in SQR. One procedure in my SQR will select and insert a record with a long data type and I always encounter an error of "illegal use of long data type". Can anyone help me?

    The copy command doesn't support the long datatype.

    I see, thanks beilstwh. Is there other ways in order for me to work with fields that have a long data type? I have to select that field and insert it into another record but I can't find any solution. Can anyone help me.

    Try setting up a database link and then do a select into the other table, for example

    insert into my_table
    (select long_column
    from other_table@other_db
    where ....);

    Question

    Is there a function in Oracle that can convert long data type into char?
