Question Unanswered: Opening Applications through ASP

    hi

I want to open applications (calculator, word, excel etc) through ASP - linkbuttons...

But it must open the actual application - not open in a browser.

    How can this be done?

ok - used the response.redirect("C:\file"), works on my machine but no luck anywhere else - any other way of doing it? Think some security setting is messing around...

well to be perfectly honest it can't be done in any nice way. Your idea of redirecting to a application file is an interesting one and it will work on your machine because your machine is also the server (I'm assuming).

He'd need to develop a Java applet that would launch the app.

would java let you do that? I would expect the security context would be a problem.

yup, you can.. but it would require the applet to be signed.
