    Unanswered: Export data to another DB

    Hi people,
    I used this syntax to import data from another database:

    create database link prodLink using 'myDatabase';

    create table ping as (select * from userName.ping@prodLink);

    but I get the error "Invalid username/password".
    What does it mean? For this kind of operation, user should have the same password in both DB?

    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    Now I tried this:

    create public database link linkProd connect to userName identified by myPwd using 'myDatabase';

    create table ping as (select * from userName.ping@linkProd);

    Error I got is: ORA-02085: database link linkProd connects to myDatabase

    I can't give you a specific answer for this, but try the following link:

    http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/ask/f?p...56820211101%2C

    It's a general thread on database links - Your error gets a mention (among others), along with the suggestion that you do a search on asktom for the solution

    (I know it's a long winded way of saying that you can find the answer if you search asktom, but the thread is useful for those wanting to know more about linking databases - like me!)
    90% of users' problems can be resolved by punching them - the other 10% by switching off their PCs.

    ORA-02085 database link string connects to string

    Cause: The database link attempted to connect to a database with a different name. The name of the database link must be the same name as the name of the database.

    Action: Create a database link with the same name as the database to which it connects.

    This definitely works!
    Thank you so much
