Unanswered: Converting Oracle Char Set from WE8ISO8859P1 to WE8MSWIN1252

Hello. We are trying to convert the character set of our Oracle database from WE8ISO8859P1 to WE8MSWIN1252 to match the character set of our server. After running Oracle's scanner to detect problems we got a large set of problem characters back ranging from the expected smart quote's and hyphens to the trademark symbol to foreign characters such as lowercase z's with accents over them.

All the suggestions I've seen so far on message boards say to simply convert the problem characters to other characters before changing the set such as smart quotes to regular quotes. The problem is, many of our characters have nothing that they can be converted to ahead of time to make them safe such as the TM or foreign language characters. I'm wondering what the best option is to allow our database to be safely converted to the larger set of characters to avoid future problems. Thanks for the help.

    Conversion Problems

Is there anyone that has handled this before? The specific characters we have in our database are ascii codes 128, 144, 153 and 158. Is there anyway to preserve them when we move to the superset or is there something to convert them to? Thanks.

WE8MSWIN1252 is NOT a superset to WE8ISO8859P1 otherwise you would not loose bytes

metalink has a couple of notes covering the todo's no do not's while swtiching charset
