Angry Unanswered: My database vanished into thin air!

Has anyone ever seen this happen?

I have an Access 2002 database on a network server. I went to the database, turned on Compact on Close. When I closed the database, I got the message that "DatabaseName.mdb cannot be found". And it was gone! No db1.mdb, no anything. I even searched the drive in case it got moved somewhere, nope!!!

Thankfully, I had a backup copy and only lost a few hours of work, but how can I trust the database to not vanish again once users are using it? Anyone have any idea how a database can vanish?!?

Maybe you inadvertently programmed some AI into it and it jumped on the first packet outta town?

Did you search the drive for parts of the filename, *.mdb, db1*.* etc?

sometimes it does also happen when for example (by accident) a do while true is created without any exit, or such like that.
