    To write Excel-files: Spreadsheet::WriteExcel
    parse Excel-files: Spreadsheet::ParseExcel

    Creating the file will be OK under linux. But opening Excel.... you should have it installed... what I think is difficult (I don't know linux).

    You could not open Excel, but you can open an excel-file with OpenOffice - when installed

    If your OpenOffice-program is located under /opt/OpenOffice/program/soffice you can open your xls (for example test.xls):
    soffice test.xls

    you can integrate this command into your Perl-program!

    Right, but Open Office don't use object called by the Win32::OLE module.
    I agree with the fact that you can open Excel files manually. But I'm not sure you can by Win32::OLE (not the same platform)

    No, ok I see I have to illustrate what I mean:

    Create Excel-file (os-independent): Spreadsheet::WriteExcel
    Parse Excel (read single values or values of worksheets but not open/show the file) - os independent: Spreadsheet::ParseExcel
    Open file (show it) os-independent: OpenOffice.org

    There is no module that can handle these tasks at all.
