    cli trace is a client side trace ... So, it can be activated only on a client ...Of course, the client can sit on the same box as the server ...

    To put it in another way, you will have to enable cli trace at each client you want the trace for ... You cannot enable it at a server, and 'trace' all client activities ...

    I was able to run cli trace on the db server . This is because infomatica is also installed on the db server. Here is what I did

    db2cli.ini is modified by adding

    [COMMON]
    tracecomm=1
    traceflush=1
    TraceFileName=/XXX/home/XXXX/trace.file
    trace=1

    we have to make sure informatica user has write permissions on trace.file
    after setting this application(informatica) is restarted and the trace works.
    for turning off the trace removing the trace.file or trace=0 didn't work and the trace only ended when the application restarted
