    Unanswered: Recover database to another location error

    I have been tackling a problem with copying a production Oracle 9i database to a standby database in a different location on windows OS. The production database has a different sid/instance name and folder structure to the standy database. The backup files used are from a hot backup and I also copied the online redo logs to the relevant folders. I have modified the init.ora and created the control files to reflect the standyby database and have created them successfully. However, when I try to recover the database using the RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE UNTIL CANCEL command I get the following errors:

    SQL> recover database using backup controlfile until cancel;
    ORA-00279: change 16995709531 generated at 11/15/2004 21:13:48 needed for
    thread 1
    ORA-00289: suggestion : D:\ORACLE\ORA92\RDBMS\ARC05412.001
    ORA-00280: change 16995709531 for thread 1 is in sequence #5412

    Specify log: {<RET>=suggested | filename | AUTO | CANCEL}

    ORA-00308: cannot open archived log 'D:\ORACLE\ORA92\RDBMS\ARC05412.001'
    ORA-27041: unable to open file
    OSD-04002: unable to open file
    O/S-Error: (OS 2) The system cannot find the file specified.

    ORA-01547: warning: RECOVER succeeded but OPEN RESETLOGS would get error below
    ORA-01195: online backup of file 1 needs more recovery to be consistent
    ORA-01110: data file 1: 'D:\CLUSTER_DB0\SYSTEM01.DBF'

    Any information on why I get these errors and how to resolve them would be very helpful

    So, is the file D:\ORACLE\ORA92\RDBMS\ARC05412.001 where Oracle is looking for it?

    Do you mean you are setting up a STANDBY database (Data Guard)?

    Or do you mean you are just trying to CLONE your production database
    using an RMAN backup?

    OR, do you mean you are trying to do a switchover of the STANDBY database
    from a standby to primary?

    I am trying to do a user managed complete/incomplete recovery (but i dont have the archived logs) to a standby database which has a different file structure and instance to the production. The standby database has been created with different instance name and sid name. It would be easier to copy the init.ora file and datafiles from the production database to standby, right? but how would I modify the instance on the standyby database to exactly mirror the production database? Thanks this is a great tutorial am learning sh*t loads!!
