    Unanswered: Update Query - Basics

    Hi All,

    Looking at the complexity of everyone else's questions, I feel like a muppet asking this as it seems so rudimentary by comparison.

    However, can someone help me with the following:

    I have two identical tables in structure, but the recordset in one is more up to date than the other. My aim is to take a column of data called [source] in the older one and update it into the other table where the [ID] fields from both tables are the same (these are unique). The [ID] field in both tables relates to the same person.

    Can someone, in laymens terms, break down what I have to do?

    Thanks a million.

    John

    update tableA ta
    set ta.name = tb.name
    from tableA ta
    INNER JOIN
    tableB tb ON
    ta.id = tb.id

    Thx - not sure what all of the code meant, but it worked.

    Cheers,
