    Unanswered: standby connection restoration

    I have a standby database on separate server. There was a network breakup on weekend.
    On Monday when I check status of standby connection there was a connection error on primary database.

    I want to know is there any possibility to restore standby connection without restarting primary database.

    Remember this is oracle 8i scenario..... Thanks in advance

    look into your init<ORA> for log_archive_dest_2 where standby is mentioned

    these commands can be submitted as

    alter system set log_archive_dest_2 = 'service <stdby> mandatory retention ...;

    alter system set log_archive_des_2 = enable ;

    I wouldn't do that - if you specify standby database as a mandatory log destination then it would halt the primary database in case of a network problem. I think just specifying "REOPEN=..." to set retry interval will do the trick.
